We've recently stumbled across a really cool feature, thanks to Piero for the heads up on this one. This will allow you to call your contacts from outlook, windows, or even from any CMS program that uses the Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) to dial.

What you will need:
  • SipTAPI - Available from SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/siptapi/)
  • Administrative account on Windows. Tested SipTAPI 0.2.8 on Windows XP, Vista & 7 and works fine on all.

    Setup:
  • Extract siptapi-0.2.8.zip to a folder on your hard drive.
  • Within siptapi-0.2.8 there are folders labelled x64 (for 64 bit versions of windows) and x86 (for 32 bit versions of windows). Within each folder is a file called siptapi.tsp. Copy the required file into your \Windows\System32 directory
  • From your Windows control panel, either choose Telephony or Phone and Modem Options.
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Click Add to add a telephony provider
  • From the list, choose SIPTAPI Service Provider 0.2.8 and click OK
  • In the list of telephony providers, highlight SIPTAPI Service Provider 0.2.8 and click Configure
    Fill in the following details:
  • SIP Domain: sip.soho66.co.uk
  • User: [Your Soho66 VoIP username - 10 digits]
  • Password: [Your Soho66 VoIP password - 8 alphanumeric characters]
  • Leave the SIP Outbound Proxy and User's Extension blank

    Click OK

You should now be able to dial your contacts using your PC. When dialling, your own phone will start to ring first of all. When you pick up, the call to your destination will be made.

If you do decide to try this with your CRM, we'd be interested in hearing your success / woe stories, so that other customers can benefit. Please feel free to reply below.

    Kind Regards

    Daryl

    Really useful, thanks

Have now got this working from within SugarCRM using callto: which has pleased a few of my clients.
